István Aranyosi

Istvan Aranyosi

I’m a philosopher, currently (April 2006 – April 2007) a research fellow at the Centre for Consciousness, headed by David Chalmers, at the Australian National University. Before that I have been a graduate student in Philosophy at the Central European University, getting my PhD there in 2005. In 2003, I was a visiting scholar at the University of Arizona, in Tucson. I’m specializing in the philosophy of mind and metaphysics. The focus of my research so far has been: consciousness, intentionality, physicalism, functionalism, mental causation, the ontology of composition, and dispositional essentialism. Recently, I've come to be interested in philosophical theology  as well.

3. Other interests:

Music: First of all, I've been a MANOWAR in the last 18 years (I'm writing this in 2006). Second, I used to be a musician, vocals and guitars, in a metal band called Empire, which ceased to exist in 1997. I hope to start the battle again some point, after I get a job in philosophy (or rather if I don't get a job). Here is a sample song by Empire, live at Samus Rock Alive, 1996: Steppenwolf. Third, I'm a fanatic of virtuoso melodic progressive neoclassical shredding (but also symphonic, viking, etc.), especially (but not before DT):
