For many years the Research School of Social Sciences has offered a number of Summer Research Scholarships to 3rd and 4th year undergraduates from outside the ANU for study at the RSSS during the months of December, January and February. These offers were made to a very small number of people on a competitive basis, subject to the availability of appropriate supervision and accommodation. More recently the School has decided to allow Programs to use the funds that have in the past been used to fund these Summer Research Scholars to instead fund shorter visits by a larger number 3rd and 4th year undergraduates from outside the ANU to attend an Undergraduate Philosophy Workshop. For further details of what the Philosophy Program will do in any particular year, interested students should contact the Head of the Philosophy Program Martin Davies or the Philosophy Program Administrator. Many past Summer Research Scholars have gone on to have flourishing careers in philosophy, for example: John Collins, then at Sydney, now teaching at Columbia University, was Summer Research Scholar in 1979. In more recent times students from UNE, Monash, UNSW, Victoria (NZ), Massey, Canterbury, Otago, Auckland, and Sydney have come to the Philosophy Program under this scheme. |
