I came to the ANU in August 2009 after completing a Bachelor of Arts with Honours at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand. My research at the University of Otago sat somewhere between epistemology and the philosophy of language, focusing on the phenomenon of vagueness and several broadly contextualist "solutions" to the problems that vagueness generates.

In addition to my interests in epistemology and the philosophy of language, I have strong interests in the history of philosophy and several aspects of metaphysics. I also have a burgeoning interest in the philosophy of mind.

My current research brings some of my threads of interest together, being concerned with time, persistence and personal identity. Specifically, I am interested in whether problems surrounding personal identity can be reduced to the problems surrounding the persistence of generic objects, or whether (as I think), personal identity involves something over and above the concerns of the generic persistence debate, which makes it independently interesting and important.

When not doing philosophy, I like to listen to music, read speculative fiction and explore the outdoors. I also enjoy playing with computers and travelling.
