The focus of the conference will be on recent work on experimental philosophy, especially the experimental study of philosophical intuitions, and its relationship to more traditional philosophical methods such as conceptual analysis. Speakers will include John Doris, Joshua Knobe, Stephen Stich, David Chalmers, Frank Jackson, and Michael Smith. The conference will be preceded by a one-day undergraduate workshop on Tuesday July 17, open to ten selected undergraduates from Australasian universities. A separate notice will be send with details on how to apply for this workshop.

The RSSS Philosophy Program at the Australian National University is
pleased to announce a special workshop for undergraduates in
philosophy, to take place at the ANU on Tuesday 17 July, 2007.
Mechanical Christs, Hydraulic Brutes and the Invention of Consciousness, Friday, Jul 13This workshop is designed to complement the conference on 'Experimental Philosophy Meets Conceptual Analysis', which will take place at the ANU on Wednesday 18 - Friday 20 July. Our aim is to invite ten of the very best philosophy undergraduates from Australia and New Zealand to attend a one-day workshop on Tuesday 17 July and to attend and participate in the ensuing conference. The ten workshop places are to be assigned on a competitive basis. The Philosophy Program will cover the accommodation costs for successful applicants and will make a contribution toward their travel expenses. The ten successful applicants will also be guests of the Philosophy Program at dinner on the Tuesday evening.
To apply for a place at the Undergraduate Philosophy Workshop you need
to (i) send us a CV and a one-page statement of your research
interests, and (ii) arrange for a staff member at your university
(e.g. lecturer, supervisor, head of department) to send us a
confidential letter of reference. Applications and references should
be sent to David Chalmers at chalmers at anu.edu.au. The closing date
for applications is Friday 1 June, 2007.

A one-day workshop on 'The Epistemology of Experience' will be held at the Australian National University on May 25, 2007, organized by the Philosophy Program in the Research School of Social Sciences. The focus of the conference will be on the epistemic role of experience, particularly as this connects with issues surrounding basic knowledge. Speakers will include Carrie Jenkins, Jim Pryor, Nico Silins, and Declan Smithies.
